Take 2

Mike was up in the middle of the night coughing and running a fever. He ended up taking Nyquil just to be able to breathe and not cough. I knew he'd be knocked out this morning, so when Max started calling for me I got the kids up and kept our bedroom door shut so Mike could rest. This worked well for a few hours and then both kids climbed on top of him and yelled, er talked.

Once everyone was down for naps, I ran some errands and picked up the makings for Take 2 of chicken soup. I got everything chopped and simmering and then realized everyone was still asleep. I had to make some noise to get these guys going again!

Mike grabbed his phone during dinner because Julia and Max were cracking us up. Max was trying to slurp his noodles but he ended up blowing them out of his mouth instead of sucking them in. His noodles landed on the floor and my shirt.

We think they enjoyed the soup!

Runnin' on Empty

We took it easy today. And I mean that in the literal sense. Mike is now feeling under the weather and none of us really had energy for much. I believe we played with every single block and toy in our living room. That's a lot of toys!

We finally decided to pack up the crew and head out for dinner. We ended up sitting next to a family with 12 year old twin girls. It's fun to meet and talk to people who have been where we are. We got to chatting and the subject of potty training came up. Their girls were mortified and embarrassed. It was hilarious. I'm sure we'll embarrass Max and Julia without even trying in the years to come. I can't hardy wait!

The Big Man

Have I told you lately how much we love this guy? He is back to his funny, smiling, happy self. We saw glimpses while he was sick and we're glad he's back 100%.

I have no idea how I got him to stop for this pic while he was running past. He was headed to tackle his sister.

Happy Birthday Eric!

Remember when we went to the movies and when we sat down I spilled our extra-jumbo sized soda all over the floor?

Remember when we went to Alcatraz?

Remember when you broke your arm playing football in Brisbin's front yard?

Remember the curly fries at Smitty's?

Remember when the chick at the Taco Villa drive-thru asked you if we were twins and you told her we were, and we laughed all the way home?

Remember your first job at Burger King and you used to bring me home a personalized Whopper With extra pickles?

Remember when we locked Lisa out of Abuela's car and she was carrying a watermelon and she kept circling the car yelling at us to let her in?

Remember the tickle wickle claw?

Remember the night I went to bed and my doll's head suddenly fell off and I started screaming?

Remember when we were eating that horrible noodle dish and you snuck both of our plates back into the serving dish so we wouldn't have to eat it? (And we had ice cream for dinner!)

Remember when we couldn't go swimming until John finished his lunch and it took him 2 hours to eat his peanut butter sandwich?

Remember the burgers and shakes from Manny's?

I hope you have a great day and year Bro! Love you!

More of the Same

Yes, I'm only four days in and I'm at a loss for what to write! Gah!

Max was still running a fever last night so of course no school for him today. Julia is now on the same course so we all stayed home together. We played trains until someone (cough, Julia!) kicked everything over. We read some books. And more books. Max did some grocery shopping and prepared me a fine snack of potatoes and peppers in his play kitchen. And because she was just too tired to stand up, Julia did her dancey-dance moves while lounging.

J's lounging Dancey-Dance move

Since I'm such a list maker and planner, I'm happy to report I'm already working on my Thanksgiving day menu. I'm scouring the internet, magazines and cookbooks to come up with a few new side dishes or salads. And recs send em my way.

Chicken Soup for the Tummy

Max is still sick. Fever, coughing and runny nose. Julia now has a very runny nose. I carted my sickies off to the grocery store for the makings of chicken noodle soup. While we were shopping, Max had a few big, wet sneezes and I had to use my jacket to wipe his face. The glamour never ends around here!

We all took long afternoon naps and then relaxed with Dora and Boots while the soupy goodness simmered.
Soups on!

Max preferred to eat more of his spinach salad for dinner (uh huh, that's right! He's eating green veggies!) but J slurped and slurped. And asked for more noodles. I'm hoping my magical soup will send the sick bugs packin'!

Max is Illin'

So it turns out Max is sick. From losing his voice (actually it added well to his pirate-ness) to running a fever, coughing and wiping a runny nose. He stayed home with me today. We cuddled on the couch, read books and did a bit of sword fighting and swashbuckling. Who knew I could be such a great pirate??

Thank goodness for friends! I called my buddy Lembo this morning and she came over and took Julia to school so I didn't have to take Max out and into to the school. What a lifesaver! Thanks again Lem!

We all know Julia is used to keeping track of Max so she had a bit of a rough morning. After lunch and nap time she was good to go. She now has a runny nose but we're keeping our fingers crossed it won't progress further.

We didn't plan to start off November sick (when do we ever plan for being sick?) but hopefully we'll get this out of the way and be healthy for the rest of the month.
